A grouse on the trail that wanted to fight us. It had a number of baby grouse with it, and was so protective that it seemed very ready to fight. |
The same grouse, which stuck around long enough for me to take lots of pictures. |
Mica Creek coming over a little waterfall, out of the bottom of the Mica Basin valley. |
Mica Creek again at the crossing near the bottom of the basin. |
Same crossing looking the other way, just past where you can't see the creek any more is where the falls is. |
Some Indian Paintbrush in front of a rock, there were a ton of flowers in the basin while we were there. |
A huge patch of Columbines near the creek |
More of the same patch of Columbines |
Most of Mica Basin burned in 2002 in the Hinman Creek Fire, so there was lots of fire damage, and few living trees, here's one of the causalities, with lots of new growth around it. |
A field completely full of flowers. I wonder if there were more flowers because of the fire. |
A peak along the Big Agnes Range (maybe Big Agnes), with more of the fire damage in the foreground. |
The same peak. |
Looking south from the basin, The Dome is visible on the right. |
Mica Lake - Somehow the fire didn't burn right next to the lake. |
Looking from the saddle above Mica Lake to the north-west more of the burn area could be seen down the Agnes Creek drainage. |
The other side of that valley, the fire destroyed almost everything there. |
From the pass looking back into the Mica Basin, with the same peak, maybe Big Agnes. |
From the pass again looking south, you can see most of the basin, and the lake. |
Mica Lake again, with the ridge in the background. |
An Aspen grove back down near the Slavonia trailhead. |
